HM Lloyd Dental Practice achieve compliance in Employment Law

HM Lloyd Dental Practice was established in December 1987. Its aim has always been to provide a high standard of dental care to patients in the Merseyside region in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. They serve both private and NHS patients.
Challenge
In 2000 HM Lloyd saw an increase in the number of staff it employed. Their team grew and they were now employing more than 5 staff on a mixture of full, part time and trainee contracts. At this point they realised that by law, they needed to comply with specific legal requirements.
At the same time HM Lloyd management team wanted to implement standard procedures and policies across the board for all staff on such things as submitting holiday requests, maternity leave rights, recording and notifying of absences from work and discipline and grievance policies.
Solution
Citation plc was brought in to review HM Lloyd’s current systems and contracts of employment in 2000. After the initial assessment it was decided that Citation would produce bespoke contracts of employment for full, part time and trainee employees. HM Lloyd completed a detailed one to one assessment with their assigned consultant from which the individual contracts were drafted.
During the review process it was identified that HM Lloyd had no employee handbooks to give staff additional employment information than is legally required in contracts of employment. Citation produced a bespoke employee handbook for HM Lloyd incorporating employment policies and procedures relating to biohazards and cross infection control, disciplinary and grievance, absence management, dress code and no-smoking rules to name but a few.
Results
The growth of HM Lloyd forced the practice to become legally compliant in employment law. Using Citation’s personnel & employment law service HM Lloyd were able to implement formal contracts of employment and staff handbooks using the bespoke documentation produced by Citation. Since HM Lloyd has used Citation’s systems and advice they have never had an employee tribunal application put forward and the systems have supported the Practice in satisfying an inspection.
