Working Time Regulations
The Working Time Regulations (WTR) were introduced in the UK to implement the EU Working Time Directive (WTD). The regulations apply to all workers (not just employees) and stipulate minimum rest breaks, daily rest, weekly rest and the maximum average working week. The UK currently has an opt-out from the maximum average 48-hour working week, but this is under threat from the European Parliament. There are special rules for night workers and for young workers, and there are exceptions for special cases.
The regulations also provide for statutory minimum holidays, currently 4.8 weeks a year (including any bank holidays or public holidays that are taken), increasing to 5.6 weeks from 6 April 2009.
We currently provide fixed cost compliance solutions for over 6,000 clients across the UK.
