Astonlee Veterinary Hospital was established in 1986, and it’s been committed to giving the very best veterinary care to the local community ever since.
Founded by Paul Manning, the practice has grown into a state of the art animal hospital, with two operating theatres and more than 10,000 clients to its name.
With the practice’s impressive growth and increased customer base, came the need for more and more employees – which came with even more work in itself.
As well as this, Astonlee Veterinary Hospital has an active operation and offers a wide range of on-call services, which makes managing day-to-day operations – like employee work times and keeping on top of COSHH risk assessments – increasingly difficult to find time for, while ensuring the running of the practice is in no way compromised.
And we’ve not even got onto the legislative requirements of running a veterinary practice yet. Looking after a range of employees – like vets, nurses, animal care assistants, receptionists and administrators – and maintaining compliance at all times can be tricky and time consuming, something Astonlee Veterinary Hospital were becoming all too familiar with.
What they say about us
Barbara Keeling spoke of our services: “We’ve experienced a wide variety of employment issues. From a nurse complaining about a vet’s driving and a member of staff who felt she’d been bullied, to a nurse who wanted to return on different hours after having a child and the business being unable accommodate her proposals, we’ve encountered all sorts.
“These were all issues that Citation sorted out for us. Most of the time it’s the small things, but they can be major items if not dealt with properly. We get all our legal correspondence done by Citation, so if there’s re-wording in a contract of employment they’ll do it for us.”
The inspectors agree too!
During their last visit by the College of Animal Welfare, the inspectors gave Astonlee Veterinary Hospital a real boost – further backing up the support we give them.
Barbara added: “They said it was one of the best assessments they’d ever seen.
“Citation helped with the risk assessment check on all hazardous substances by collating them into one file of A4 folders. We’ve even got a 12-page risk assessment for the type of bleach we use.
“Our inspection assessments have got to be just right, so we were really pleased with the positive feedback.
“We also use Citation’s Employment Law services which provide us with the reassurance that we have 24/7 advice from a specialist – should we need it.”
