Which legislation requires employers to provide PPE?

The Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 2022 (PPER 2022) came into force on 6 April 2022. But, what has this got to do with employment status? Well, again it comes back to the importance of employment status categories!

The new regulations basically mean you need to provide PPE to people other than just “employees”, which was the situation under the old legislation. So, it’s more important than ever to make sure you understand your wider employer’s Health and Safety obligations towards the people who work for you. It’s also a good idea to know what Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) you should be providing.

Knowing what employment status category your people fall under will help you understand exactly what you need to do and stop you from getting caught out if Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspectors come around.
