On 12 October, the Prime Minister introduced a ‘three tier system’ – introducing local restriction dependent on case numbers – in an attempt to avoid another national lockdown. If your business falls into a tier 1 or tier 2 area, it’s essential you’re following COVID-secure guidelines so your business can remain operational throughout.
On 22 September, the government announced that they would encourage all those who can work from home to once again do so, in an attempt to curb a rise in COVID-19 cases in the UK.
However, there are still many businesses for whom homeworking is not an option. For them, creating a COVID-secure workplace has never been more crucial, especially as now COVID-compliance has become a legal obligation.
Not meeting these standards and legal requirements in the workplace will result in fines of up to £10,000 and being forced to close your doors.
We know that the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and Local Authorities across the country are ramping up their inspection activity, with a particular focus on how COVID-secure any workplace is. Local authorities will receive extra funding to increase police presence to enforce these rules and the police will be able to call on the military to support them with their enforcement efforts.
To help you make sure you’ve got every base covered when it comes to your COVID-security (and avoid the prospect of a hefty fine), our Health & Safety and HR experts have put together this checklist of considerations you need to make, to get you inspection-ready and to create a safe and secure workplace for everyone in your workplace.
