How often do you train your fire marshals?

04 January 2017

We hold business briefings all over the country each week, this week we were asked…

Q: How often should I train / retrain my fire marshals?

A: We advise after initial training is completed all fire marshals and wardens have an annual refresher. If there has been an incident or fire on your premises all fire marshals and wardens should be retrained as a precaution to help you maintain the safety of all your employees and premises.

We would also suggest regular fire drills to ensure all employees involved are aware of what to do in an emergency.

Even if you rent your premises, you are in some way responsible for:

  • Fire fighting equipment
  • Signage
  • Training and updating employees and visitors
  • Record keeping

Lee Mills, Director of Health & Safety said: “If you share responsibility with your landlord or building owner, you need to ensure that they are also complying with their obligations. If they are not, this could impact the financial health of your business as well as the safety of your employees, customers and stock.”
