A company has been fined £200,00 and a builder has been given a 6 month jail sentence after a worker fell to their death, through a warehouse roof.

Mr Gray climbed on to the warehouse roof, which covers 36,000 sq ft, without any preparation work or planning. They also failed to use harnesses or any other safety equipment. One of the clear panels gave way, sending Mr Gray crashing to the concrete floor below where he died.

HSE inspector Allen Shute has said, “Craig Gray should never have been allowed onto the warehouse roof without being given suitable training and equipment.”

The company admitted to a single breach of the Health & Safety at Work Act. Both were prosecuted by the HSE.
