Sickness absence levels fall

Stress became the top reason for long-term sickness absence in 2011 replacing musculoskeletal problems and remains the top reason in 2012.

The ‘Top 5’ reasons are:

  1. Stress.
  2. Acute medical conditions.
  3. Mental ill health.
  4. Musculoskeletal problems.
  5. Back pain.

Sickness absences can be caused by an underlying disability, and it is important that clients contact the Citation Helpline for advice before they take any action in relation to an employee’s sickness absence.
