3,500 Scottish care workers yet to register

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) has expressed concern that there are an estimated 3,500 care workers in Scotland who have yet to register with them.

The same registration requirements will also apply to managers, supervisors and support workers providing care at home services and to managers of adult day care services.

Workers new in their role from 1 August 2013 onwards should have achieved registration within six months of taking up employment in this role, and workers who started in their role before 1 August 2013 have until 30 September 2015 to register.

For those who applied for registration by 30 September 2014, their application will not be dealt with within the SSSC’s normal 60 working days but it will be dealt with by the 30 September 2015 deadline.
