England moved to the final phase of the roadmap on 19 July, ending all COVID restrictions on social distancing and limits on social contact, along with a recommended ‘gradual return to work’. This follows the UK Health & Social Care Secretary, Sajid Javid, having previously said that the country must “learn to live” with COVID.
However, as COVID cases continue to rise, the government also has urged a cautious approach, a message which has similarly been echoed by leaders of the devolved nations in the UK.
As lockdown restrictions have been gradually eased, a “new normal” is emerging while we “learn to live with COVID”, with newly introduced behaviours, models, and ways of working continuing (and evolving) beyond the pandemic.
