CBI’s key areas for review of AWR

CBI Director of Employment and Skills, Neil Carberry, said:

“The Regulations are thought to have cost businesses more than £1.5bn in their first year, but temps have not reaped the rewards – instead, the vast majority of this cost has paid for paper-pushing to ensure compliance.”

The CBI’s key suggestions are that the AWR definition of ‘pay’ should be streamlined to allow for easier comparison with the hirer’s pay rates, and that the 12-week qualifying period should be modified so that those on fixed-length short-term assignments are excluded from the Regulations.

The government’s review is due later this year, with a focus on simplifying the paperwork involved.
