Do you have to pay an employee for jury leave?

As an employer, you do not have to pay an employee if they’re on jury duty or jury leave.

That’s not to say there’s anything stopping you from paying for such leave though. However, if you do decide to pay an employee, bear in mind that you might be setting a precedent. This means you could later face claims of discrimination if you pay one employee for jury leave and not another.

Here at Citation, we’d recommend you have a policy on such leave in your employee handbook.
