Plans for ‘Welsh AWB’ blocked

However, the UK Attorney General has blocked the Agricultural Sector (Wales) Bill, saying it is not within the Assembly’s competence, and the Supreme Court will now rule on whether the Bill can become law or not.

The UK government’s argument is that agricultural wages are not a devolved matter since they are a non-devolved employment issue rather than a devolved agricultural issue.

Note that new and existing agricultural workers in Wales remain entitled to the terms and conditions of the Agricultural Wages Order 2012 pending the Supreme Court’s ruling.
