Manual handling training

When it comes to manual handling training – as with any type of safety, knowledge is power. So, to keep you and your employees healthy while handling, we’ve put together a comprehensive manual handling training course.

Course objectives

Our training has been designed to introduce employers, managers and employees to the world of manual handling safety. We’ll pinpoint the hazards you need to look out for, run through any risks involved, point you in the direction of available controls, and show you all the proper techniques.

We’ll take you through the various types of manual handling, including, but not limited to: individual lifting; team lifting; handling whilst seated; and pushing and pulling – which includes handling devices, force, slopes, surfaces, stance and pace.

Course content

  • An introduction to manual handling
  • An overview of your regulations and responsibilities
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • The risks and injuries associated with manual handling
  • How to conduct a risk assessment in the workplace
  • A practical look at the basic rules and safe manual handling techniques.

Your expert instructor will assess you throughout your manual handling training and, where practical, will observe you completing relevant manual handling movements.

Course outcomes

By undertaking manual handling training, you’ll be in a better position to meet your legal duties set out in the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.

How? Because our training will: increase awareness around why safe lifting techniques are important; provide you with clear, practical demonstrations on how to lift safely in a variety of situations; and fill you with knowledge to know what measures are needed to protect people who’re manual handling.

Who should take the course?

This course is right for you if you and/or your employees regularly transport or support heavy objects.

And remember, manual handling is for everyone. Whether you’re working in a care home or construction site, nursery or professional service, at one point or another, manual handling plays a part in all business types.

Manual handling assessment

As part of the risk assessment element of the course, we’ll take a look at the types of tasks that require manual handling in and around your business.

Then, we’ll show you how current techniques can be improved on to ensure the safest working practices are being followed.

Unsafe manual handling

Unsafe manual handling methods can lead to serious injuries – but the effects are more far-reaching than just physical symptoms.

It can lead to time off, work disruption, loss of production, sickness payments, increased insurance premiums, prosecutions and civil claims.

We introduced our manual handling training service to ensure your employees and your business are safe – whatever the load.

Manual handling certificate

Once you’ve completed your training and we’re confident you can go away and implement and maintain manual handling safety around your business, we’ll provide you with a manual handling certificate.

This can be displayed within your business to demonstrate your commitment to safe working practices.
